A whopping 84,000 model airplane enthusiasts are members of The Deutsche Modellflieger Verband e. V. (DMFV), which acts as an umbrella organization for no less than 1,300 model flying clubs spread across Germany. It was by chance that I heard about the "Flugtag 2024" by the FMC Oberland e.V., a smaller, local club of passionate hobbyists in Southern Bavaria and learned about this niche hobby that seems to fascinate quite a great amount of my fellow citizens. Curious about this world I had not been in touch with before, I went to attend the event on their dedicated airfield in Osterwarngau. My focus lay on capturing the attending members and hobby pilots, together with their hand-built model aircrafts featuring some impressively detailed reproductions of famous or one-off real-world airplanes.
